Lurgashall Winery & Blackdown Distillery
A 13 minute taxi ride will take you from The Station House in Haslemere to the beautiful Lurgashall Winery & Blackdown Distillery in the foothills of the South Downs National Park in West Sussex.
Housed in charming 17th & 19th century farm buildings and surrounded by 40 acres of woodland, Lurgahall Winery was established more than 25 years ago, with Blackdown Distillery arriving later in 2012.
Lurgashall Winery is known for its unusual wine flavours, utilising 50 years of experience to produce small batches of handcrafted Botanical Wines from Silver Birch sap, Rose petals and Elderflowers.
Award winning Blackdown Distillery is a producer of quality, finely crafted spirits, using only natural botanicals. The distillery’s surrounding woodlands were the inspiration for first ever Sussex Dry Gin, Silver Birch Vermouth and Silver Birch Vodka.
Silver Birch is a rare ingredient that’s difficult to produce and is generally harvested between March – April in the UK, when the sap is rising. Referred to as “white gold”, the season lasts between just 2-6 weeks.
All the ingredients and packaging are from British suppliers only, for a wholly British product.
The cellar door at Lurgashall Winery & Blackdown Distillery is open for you to taste its award winning spirits, liqueurs and meads. They also stock a selection of Sussex and South Downs beers, ales, ciders and wines to purchase. There is also a tea room on site, set in an old bakery with low beamed ceiling, where you can enjoy tea, coffee and sweet and savoury treats.
